
Michael D. Campion
Michael D. Campion is a Senior Associate in the Labor & Employment Department of Musick Peeler’s Los Angeles office. He has extensive experience defending public and not-for-profit entities in wage-and-hour class actions, wrongful termination claims, whistleblower suits, and federal civil rights matters. He also has experience advising and representing public entity clients in mandamus proceedings, including allegations of wrongful termination, public finance disputes, commercial cannabis licensing, and proceedings concerning compliance with statutes such as the California Environmental Quality Act, the California Public Records Act and the Brown Act. He also counsels school districts, public officials, and members of the judiciary in subpoena compliance related to criminal proceedings.
Mr. Campion also has experience representing community college districts in the arbitration and adjudication of tenure and retention disputes. He has also represented not-for-profit entities in mediations and administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Prior to Musick Peeler, Mr. Campion was Senior Counsel at Lozano Smith, where he represented school districts, counties, and other public agency clients in litigation. He also served as a Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice, representing California state agencies in employment litigation and mandamus proceedings. Prior to his litigation practice, Mr. Campion served as a senior Research Attorney in the Superior Court for Los Angeles County for over a decade, handling legal analysis and research in unlimited civil cases and matters before the Writs & Receivers departments.
Mr. Campion earned his B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago, where he also earned an M.A. in Social Sciences. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, where he was a George Cochran Scholarship recipient.
