Laura P. Birnbaum
Laura P. Birnbaum is an Associate in the firm’s Labor & Employment Department. Ms. Birnbaum has extensive experience litigating complex employment cases, including claims of discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour disputes, harassment, class actions, and Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) actions. She is adept at managing cases up to trial readiness, ensuring thorough and strategic preparation. Ms. Birnbaum has litigated cases in a variety of venues, including court, arbitration, and administrative proceedings.
Ms. Birnbaum provides comprehensive counsel to business owners, including drafting employee handbooks and navigating intricate employment laws. She has successfully negotiated favorable settlements in numerous cases and is known for her strong client and insurance carrier relationships. Her extensive motion practice and meticulous case strategy development have consistently delivered positive outcomes.
Before joining Musick Peeler, Ms. Birnbaum worked at the national litigation firm Kaufman Dolowich, PC, where she litigated various employment-related claims and mentored younger associates. She also worked at employment law firm Krieger & Krieger, ALC, managing employment cases with an emphasis on Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) claims. Her career began in New York, where she handled federal and state wage and hour matters.
Ms. Birnbaum earned her Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law, where she was a Note Editor for the Public Interest Law Journal and competed in the National Health Law Moot Court Competition. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude with a major in History and a minor in Creative Writing.
Ms. Birnbaum is admitted to practice in California and New York, and she is a member of the U.S. District Courts for the Central District of California, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
