Juan A. Torres is a partner in the Firm's Los Angeles office, with which he has been associated since 1990. He has vast and expansive experience as a commercial/corporate, employment, construction, real estate and insurance litigator in federal and state courts, including bankruptcy courts and arbitration and mediation proceedings.

In the more than 30 years that Mr. Torres has been representing business owners to resolve a wide range of disputes and conflicts, he has argued on their behalf in federal and state courts, at trial and in dispute resolution forums across Southern California. A native Spanish speaker, Mr. Torres has earned the trust of the growing Latino business community in Los Angeles and beyond.

An area Mr. Torres focuses on is in counseling employers on employment related matters and resolving and settling employment-related claims — from wrongful termination and wage and hour claims to complaints of discrimination, harassment and government agency investigations.

His approach centers around an understanding of the disruption that lawsuits can create for small businesses and how litigation can have an impact on employee morale. Mr. Torres seeks cost-efficient ways to settle claims promptly and prevent future ones from arising. His clients include restaurant and hospitality owners and managers as well as owners of accounting, security services, retail and other enterprises.

Business clients appreciate Mr. Torres’ ability to minimize risks and prevent future lawsuits, and they rely on his counsel on employment policies, handbook updates and other guidance. Clients also value his clear communications, integrity and the resources that Mr. Torres provides through the Firm to meet their related legal needs, from insurance to privacy and security and intellectual property. Often, Mr. Torres adds additional value in his advice to business owners on the formation of their professional advisory teams to ensure commercial longevity and success.

Experienced with all forms of commercial litigation, Mr. Torres also has an in-depth background in real estate litigation, particularly buyer-seller transactional disputes and non-disclosure claims, and in intellectual property litigation, particularly trademark infringement claims, and insurance coverage matters.

Mr. Torres has served as a volunteer judge pro tem, arbitrator and mediator for the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. Among his many civic and professional commitments is his current service on the board of directors of The Good Samaritan Scholarship program and of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Counsel for Justice, which focuses on legal services for vulnerable communities.
